Relationship and Intimacy Issues

The main focus of my practice is helping men feel more intimately connected to their loved ones and themselves.

I work with clients who struggle with a wide range of symptoms, but from my experience the core issues are interpersonal in nature, they’re about relationships, they’re about being connected, loving and feeling loved. If this resonates with you, I’m here to help you on that journey.

If you would like to know about the symptoms I tend to treat in my practice please see below.

Therapy for Men

If you’re exploring therapy for the first time or looking to restart with someone new, it’s important to work with someone who understands your experience. I have a decade of experience specializing in men’s issues and focusing my practice on working with men.

So what is “men’s therapy” and what’s the difference?

It’s not that men have particularly unique symptoms or diagnoses, but that men tend to have particular patterns of relating to others, the world around them and to themselves. Therapy specialized towards men is more about the nature of how men live and deal with their emotions than it is about the problems themselves.

Unique Aspects

While no people group is a monolith, men tend to show up to therapy with particular challenges that might look like:

  • Difficulty admitting that you need help or acknowledging that depending on others is in fact a good thing.

    • Reaching out for help is often feels shameful or weak - this can be difficult to overcome.

  • Difficulty identifying, naming and expressing emotions, especially emotions seen as soft or weak, like fear, sadness, loneliness, longing, etc.

    • This leads to many emotions coming out as anger, having difficulty feeling compassion for others, generally feeling “bottled up,” etc.

  • Difficulty putting joy and connection with others over measurable progress or success.

  • Difficulty undoing the reality that, intentionally or not, these ways of coping with pain have probably been reinforced, validated or praised.
